Today, March 2nd, is Dr. Seuss‘s birthday.
I cannot, and do not, want to imagine a world without his contributions.
Here is a quote referencing my favorite animal from one of my favorite Dr. Seuss books, Yertle the Turtle (published in 1958).
“And the turtles, of course…all the turtles are free, as turtles and, maybe, all creatures should be.”
Happy Birthday Dr. Seuss (1904-1991). You left the world a better place than when you entered it.
For a limited time, Powell’s is offering a “buy 2 get 1 free” on all Dr. Seuss books! Check it out here!

I remember distinctly finding these books as a kid, and suddenly enjoying reading. I can even remember sitting at the kitchen table telling my mum how much I liked the Dr Seuss Cat in Hat book.

Ten tired turtles in a tuttle-tuttle tree will ALWAYS bring a smile to my face.

Thousands of wonderful memories of reading Dr. Suess to my son since his birth. He is 13 now, and demanded that I box up those books for safe keeping until he has his own kids to read them to.
Great post!

We had a struggle to get our son reading initially. Then we introduced him to Doctor Seuss, and he never looked back

Lovely! Thank you for sharing. And if you read my “About Me” you’ll find that I kept The 500 Hats of Bartholomew Cubbins out of the library until I could properly pronounce Bartholomew. I’m happy to report that I did eventually succeed.

Most of his books I dearly loved.
But being a preschool teacher for 11 years, I grew rather tired of green eggs and ham…and would rather not read it in the park or in the dark, or in my room or on a broom…or…..or…or.
The children knew the words to that story so well that if I attempted to change any of the words (to entertain myself), they would immediately correct me—saying: “Hey! That’s NOT how it goes!”
Sigh. I will not eat them Sam I Am. I will not eat green eggs and ham!

Dr. Seuss taught us to wobble, bobble, and cheer.
Frankly, the man deserves fifteen birthdays a year.
